Steven Reiss, an American psychologist, identified 16 universal human desires that shape our behaviors and decisions, with priorities varying among individuals. Marketers can leverage these desires for significant impact.

When you help customers fulfill their needs, they'll be happy to spend their money. The more essential the need you meet, the more money customers will be willing to spend.

  • Power: The desire for achievement and competence.

  • Independence: The thirst for freedom and self-reliance.

  • Curiosity: The quest for knowledge and truth.

  • Acceptance: The longing for self-worth and positive self-image.

  • Order: The need for stability and organization.

  • Saving: The desire for collection and ownership.

  • Honour: The pursuit of morality and loyalty.

  • Idealism: The drive for fairness and justice.

  • Social Contact: The yearning for friendship and fun.

  • Family: The aspiration for love through children.

  • Status: The craving for wealth, titles, and recognition.
